...but seeing how I got Justice League: Heroes the week before and am still working on it, FFXII is next on the list.
(BTW - was your version the Collector’s Ed. or the regular version? Mine’s the Collector’s Edition; I just want to see if other Collector’s Editions have the same goodies.)
Actually it was my girlfriend who got it for both of us, but anyway, we got the regular version because the extra didn’t sound like they were worth it, we did get the special edition guide for it though, that was pretty nice.
I’m about 9 hours in, and it’s pretty good so far! I got the regular edition though and the guide. Gotta love that 20% discount when you buy them together :D The battling system is MUCH quicker. It no longer “loads” fights randomly. You can see them from a distance and fight them in real time. Of course, that means you get adds too, but the other characters pratically play themselves which is a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it.
I have the Special Edition guide (with a game this complex, a strat guide’s a given!), although the cover for the guide was Penelo. The image was nice, but I would’ve liked to have gotten Ashe or Fran.
Quick question for those of you playing - are Fran and Balthier together, or is their relationship more of a Han-and-Chewie kinda thing? (One of the images in the Special Ed. artbook has a pic of Balthier embracing Fran w/out her armor, hence the question.)
The Collector’s Ed. of the game comes in a metallic tin that’s got a bronze tint to it and comes with an extra DVD that shows the history of the franchise, as well as art designs and a few other goodies.
The Collector’s Ed. of the strategy guide is hardbound with a wraparound cover of the five Judges, and comes with an extra artbook (very nice, IMHO).
Get both, if you can! ^_^
One more thing - I’m FINALLY going to start work on FFXII this weekend! Thank God for three-day weekends! ^_^
The strat guide itself has a random cover depicting one of the six main characters (Vaan, Ashe, Balthier, Fran, Penelo, Basch). The trick is, you don’t know which cover you’ll be getting until you open the hardbound cover - and as the guide proper is shrinkwrapped in the first place, you pretty much don’t know which one you’ll be getting until after you buy it.
But what is the price of the Collector’s Ed. and the Collector’s Ed. strategy guide?
I got a brief glimpse of the game when someone else started playing it nearby. The battle scenes that are able to be viewed from all over in Real Time is a different, and interesting, touch.
I’m only about 8 hours in and at level 11 for most of my charactors. I’m loving this game so far and for some strange reason it makes me think of the original Star Wars. Really cool, and the combat system is groing on me, I’m starting to get the hand of it.
