As the resistance unit nears its destination, they hear an incredible crash. Scarlet sears the horizon as a series of explosion rips the air.

Scott and crew arrive at the scene of a nightmare. One of the ships from the Expeditionary Force has crashed into the planet's surface, driven to ground by Invid assault squadrons. The destruction is so complete, the lieutenant knows there can be no survivors. Still, they check the area and hope for the best. A lone woman appears amid the wreckage holding a video camera. She introduces herself as Sue Graham, a member of the 36th Squadron Intelligence Department, Jupiter Section. As a video journalist, her mission is to keep records for Admiral hunter's archives. As she interviews the freedom fighters, she warns them that the Invid are circling back.

Sue is right. The aliens arrive as predicted. Since there are too many to be fight, the rebels overturn their mecha and hide in the ruins. Sue Graham continues to film the approaching aliens despite the danger of discovery.

"We have to get this on film so Admiral Hunter can view it," Sue explains. "Maybe it will give us a clue as to how these aliens operate."

"So, Admiral hunter will be here soon," Scott says. "The fleet will be able to take care of the Invid."

"Yes. They're making final preparations for the bombardment of Reflex Point. The third attack unit is in preliminary maneuvers at a base on the far side of the moon. The main Robotech force, however, is coming back with a fleet made up of the new Veritech fighters. The ships have been code named Shadow Fighters."

Rand is fascinated. "Why Shadow Fighters? What are they?"

Sue demonstrates with one of her films. "You can see from this graphic representation that the protoculture generator has been designed with a fourth-dimensional configuration, making the Shadow Fighters invisible to the Invid. It's that simple."

The conversation stops as another Invid patrol approaches. Sue speculates the aliens must be looking for the Syncro Cannon, another new weapon that crashed with the fleet. She has hidden it in a nearby cave, out of alien view. They try to salvage the cannon, but it is impossible. Rand destroys it to keep the valuable mecha out of enemy hands.

She films more footage on the Invid. She is especially interested in Corg. Until now, the team believed Corg was a human fighting for the aliens, but when the Invid prince is wounded, they see that he has green blood. They realize Corg is an alien in human form. As shrapnel flies about them, Sue Graham is fatally wounded and Marlene is hit. The freedom fighters are stunned into silence. Marlene has the same color blood as the Invid. Marlene is an alien, too. Devastated, the woman runs, sobbing, from the crash site. Scott and the others can only stare after her.
