Hey guys, I’m new to this section of the Robotech forums, and I’ve got a few questions about Macross:DYRL on DVD. I already have Macross DYRL on VCD in Cantonese, but I’ve been looking to get DYRL English Subbed on DVD.

I’ve seen a couple different versions in the greater vancouver area (such as “DVD Memorial Version” and others), but I have no idea if there are any differences between them. I’ve seen someone talking about an extended version in this forum as well. So basically, what’s the deal? Are there indeed different versions? Are any versions simply bootlegs?

More importantly, are the English subtitles any good? Cuz the website I’ve been checking to order these say the DVDs are published from Hong Kong, and I’ve seen Hong Kong movies and the subtitles can get really bad. So if anyone has seen DYRL Eng subbed DVDs, can you tell me if they’re decently subbed?

Thanx =)

P.S. Also heard about english dubbed version on VHS titled “Macross” simply, and heard the dubbing is terrible.

The version I have the sub titles make sense, don’t seem to be poorly constructed, in sentence structure, and match the flow of the conversation.  However I don’t speak or understand Japanese, so I can’t really tell how closely it parallels the original.

As far as I can tell there are three versions of DYRL on DVD.  There is 120 minute version, which has subs in Chinese and English.  This version I have.  It seems to be the least cut of the three versions.  Having never actually seen “the original” I can’t say if this is merely a subbed original or not, BUT it is the longest version on DVD there is.

There is 115 minute version and a 100 minute version.  I have heard good things about the first of these, and little good about the 2nd.

The version I have most commonly seen on American websites is the 120 minute version, even if it ships out of Hong Kong.

I hope this helps.

...the Sinapore release, the subtitling is excellent.  But the content is edited.

I recently scored the bootleg DVD, and the subtitles are horrible.  The audio has an echo that is more prominent in some areas of the movie over others.  But the video quality is phenomenal.

Worth a purchase if you can get it cheap enough, hope someone buys the rights to it and releases it here.

People who don’t know this language can’t enjoy these things in their country so that’s why subtitles are suitable for this work. The essay writing service reviews always ready to help so we can easily create this type of subtitle as well.

Lol thank you spam.  This is actually something I’m interested in.  I had, have somewhere the VHS version English subbed. Never even flinched and thought it was bad.  Just enjoyed it for what it was and understood =) there is a 155 minute version on YouTube right now 720p. Would love English subbed but done well.  Is there something like it?
