This topic is a follow-up to another topic by RaisingCane that brought up a discussion between the Army of the Southern Cross and its ability to repel either a Zentraedi attack or an Invid Invasion: https://robotech.com/forums/viewthread/2206735
While reading this discussion, I thought back to the “Return to Macross” comic series where a character had seen a vision of a possible future that showed the Earth (specifically, the SDF-1 and Macross Island) being overwhelmed by a whole Invid swarm: https://ibb.co/n7w3dhz https://ibb.co/j9NgFJr
Which brings me back to this topic.  I got spoiled about how the Invid appeared in the new Titans Comics series (not by anyone here in the forums, I did it myself), but this isn’t about the Titans version, but rather the original series:  If instead of the Zentraedi it was the Invid that came to Earth looking for the Flower of Life, would the original crew of the SDF-1 have survived?  Or better yet, if it was The Masters themselves that arrived searching for Zor’s ship, would Earth’s fate in the ensuing battles have come out better or worse?  Would certain events still have happened regardless of which of the three alien forces came (the Booby Trap, for instance)?

Topics like this are better suited to the Warzone Forum.

But to answer your questions, would the SDF-1 survive an Invid invasion? Perhaps. The Invid on Earth never deployed heavy warships of any kind, just sending massive numbers of mecha against the REF forces. Basically it would come down to numbers.

Against the Masters would be a different story. As their technology would be superior to that of the SDF-1. Unless Zor had put in safeguards against it, the Masters could override the systems on the battlefortress, shutting down the weapons and defenses thereby capturing the ship in all likelihood.

SDF-1 doesn’t have enough resources to oppose the Invid.  The REF and Army of the Southern Cross had multiple ships in the SDF-1’s class or beyond, and it wasn’t enough to oppose the Invid.

The question was: ‘Could The SDF-1 Survive The Invid Invasion’, not take on the entire Invid occupation force. Besides the animation shows that the Invid went after the planet first, then took on the military forces. If the SDF-1 was in space at the time, then yes it could’ve survived. Also the Southern Cross/REF forces were weakened, and the high command was shot to hell following the war with the Masters. There hadn’t been enough time to recover before the Invid invaded.

This would have the same outcome I believe if it was the Zentraedi vs the Invid. Sending in Mecha against a warshipe that can shoot down the transports before they deploy their warriors would make it an easy victory.
I believe you would’ve seen the SDF-1 go to orbit if the invid attacked meaning it could just rain down hell from above.

SDF-1’s best bet would be to fold out of the area as quickly as possible (assuming it still has fold engines), as far as it can get.  Probably would only be a matter of time before the Invid would find them again.

Didn’t the Invid destroy the Satellite Factory and most of Earth’s forces in just a few days? The Sat Fac was 900 miles tall and bristling with defense. SDF-1 would have been eaten alive!

The exact canon fate of the Factory Satellite is unknown. BrooklynRedLeg postulated that the Factory Satellite had been broken down and rebuilt into several different facilities. Such as Space Station Liberty, and the Mars III Orbital Armory.
