Any recommendations for the best robot construction kit for a keen but otherwise average 7 year old?

My son dreams of being a roboticist when he grows up. It would make for a great Christmas gift to get him an introductory robot kit. The market is oversaturated with STEM toys but from my experience most are pretty bad and have poor replayability. I’d like to stick to a price under $750.Nox Showbox Mobdro

Old school erector sets if you can get them.  Lego has some sets that have robotic elements.  My minion got a “tin can robot” a few years ago that he had a lot of fun with, but I can’t recall the actual name…  Look for ones from Discovery or Smithsonian, they’re gonna be your best quality (even if they are a little pricier).  My minion is 14 now - he has progressed to modifying Nerf guns and even turned a Barbie car into an RC!  He’s seriously considering a vocation in engineering.  I hope you find something good for your little robot maker!

If it ain’t in the Robotech show itself… It didn’t neccessarily happen.

Thanks, Carl Macek, for introducing me to all these folks.  Even the ones who bug me.
