Since there has been a tremendous amount of movement on the Live Action Robotech movie over the past 6 months I thought I would make a thread that has the latest updates as of 9/13/2017:
Sony Pictures has acquired the rights to make al Live Action Robotech movie with the following talent now attached:
It’s not that terribly uncommon in Hollywood for people to be attached to a project and then either move on or have a lesser involvement in the final result. It really happens a lot with a movie that’s been passed from one studio to another or from one group of producers to another.
cautiously optimistic on this one. at the very least i hope it’s good enough to create some new fans of RT.
Agreed. This reminds me of when the Dragonball live action film was released…I was super stoked and ended up being disappointed. I hope this film does not follow suit.
So, just saw the front page with the news of the Emerald City Comic Con panel. I’m really looking forward to hearing any news on the movie, any chance there will be video of the panel?
We’ll just have to see if anything develops, but I don’t have high hopes.
It’s looking more promising than ever, with the announcements of co producers etc according to HG’s twitter posts anyway. Those guys and gals aint working for free so it shows a level of seriousness on HG/Sony’s part in my opinion. Names like these aren’t cheap either, so I’m sure with Sony involved they have their eye on their BEP and ROI
I’m getting more and more confident about all of this.
I still have my doubts. The ‘800 Lb. Gorilla’ that is the Robotech LAM project has been dogging us for the last 10+ years now. We still don’t know what the plot/story is going to be, who’s going to star in it, and what era that the movie is going to be set in. Not to mention that the original timeline is now outdated.

For what’ll take to get really written, filmed, produced, cut etc; 2021 will be here and the whole thing will be moot. They had 10 years to make it, to rush it from 2017 to 2019- it’d probably be the same as Dragonball Evolution, especially given the liberty taken with the comics on the designs; God no! Stop this now.
