several things about it that aern’t glamorous:
1) as far as most clients are concerned, you are a nobody, a “hired goon”. Yeah, I once escorted George Lucas, but he didnt acknowledge my existence until he needed ice in his room. other times you dont even get close enough to the client, and in MOST cases you don’t talk to the client unless they talk to you.
2) they make you do stupid things.
I once had to check the windows of a hotel room to make sure no one broke in….
...we were on the freaken 17th floor!!!
so Unless spiderman or ninjas were coming,.. what was the point?
Ive been a bellboy, a taxi driver, waitstaff, Doorman, and “hey listen to my problems” guy…
..and these are just the celebrities, don’t get me started on the businessmen,.. or worse, Political figures and royalty.
I once escorted a prince to a club (I was hired just to show off how rich he was) he brought 16 groupies back to his hotel room. Kept 3, and I spent the rest of the night chasing down and kicking 13 hoochie mammas out of the hotel.
3) Its a “constant fear” job
99% of the time, absolutely nothing happens, but you have to be trained and prepared for that 1% when all hell breaks loose. from crazed fans, murderous ex girlfriends or mistresses, assassination attempts, coups, ... and worse, some clients expect you to protect them from the LAW. 9 times out of ten Im always worried of being killed by a high powered rifle where I wont even know where the bullet came from.
and the sad thing is, like Cops, and anyone who has been in the military, you can’t turn that Paranoia off. its on 24/7
4)confidentiality
I know so much dirt on people and cant saw a word about it.
on the other hand I have met and escorted many famous actors, musicians, political figures, Royalty, and captains of Industry. as well a regular rich schmoes. some were jerks, but some were quite gracious, and cool. (Ive gotten advanced Cds, concert tickets, backstage passes, and rare instances and conversations)
